The castle offers great activities during summer. For a lazy afternoon amongst friends nothing stops you from taking advantage of the Pétanque pitches.
The village is located in the centre of Cathar Country, an area which is part of the intrigue in the book " Da Vinci Code". From Chalabre, you are about 1 hour from the ski slopes of the Monts d'Olmes and also from Montségur's castle set in the Pyrénées | | | Things To Do | | Lake Montbel, where you can swim and sail is only 4 kms away, and also one of the biggest artificial lakes in Europe. For the more sporty mountain biking and hiking await you.
The other famous castle, at Puivert is where Roman Polanski filmed a scene for" The Ninth Gate ". Puivert also possesses a lake, very pleasant in the summer. While in Puivert take time to visit the museum. For the lovers of strong sensations, there is a gliders club which can organise flights above the village, for non-flyers and the experienced alike.
Not very far from Puivert, towards Nébias, nature lovers can get lost in the labyrinth made with greenery, highly entertaining...
Still on the nature trail, discover the charm of Lombrives' caves.
The market at Mirepoix (every Monday)-not to be missed- , is a great way to admire one of the last medieval towns in the area.
One of nature's curiosities is the Fountain of Fontestorbes at Bélesta which will enchant you. A natural fountain which pours at intervals.
